Who We Are
Welding Ranked is an independent review site dedicated to helping welders, fabricators, and metal workers find quality equipment and tools for their work. We evaluate welding machines, consumables, PPE, and accessories against published specifications, manufacturer documentation, and what working welders report, with transparent sourcing throughout. Our goal is to provide honest, technically accurate reviews that reflect documented performance in actual shop and field conditions.
Equipment is compared on its published capability for real shop and field work, and on what working welders report about using it day to day.
How We Evaluate
Every welding product reviewed on Welding Ranked is evaluated against published specifications and a documented, criteria-based framework:
- Welding performance: Welders are compared on published process capability across common materials (mild steel, stainless, aluminum) and joint configurations, and on documented bead, penetration, and consistency reports.
- Arc stability and control: Arc initiation, control during welding, spatter production, and ease of maintaining consistent travel speed and angle are compared on manufacturer documentation and welder reports.
- Portability and setup: For portable equipment, published weight and dimensions are compared against documented ease of transportation and setup time on-site.
- Duty cycle and thermal performance: Rated duty cycles are compared against manufacturers' published specifications and reported thermal behavior during extended use.
- Build quality and durability: Component quality, cable construction, connections, and overall build are compared using manufacturer documentation and what owners report about reliability in shop and field environments.
- Consumable costs: Published consumable specifications and cost-per-weld figures are compared to assess total cost of ownership.
- Safety features: Compliance with relevant safety standards is checked against published certification records, and safety features (ground clamps, polarity indicators, etc.) are compared on documented specifications.
- Warranty and support: Manufacturer warranty terms, published parts availability, and documented technical support responsiveness are compared across brands.
Editorial Independence
Our equipment reviews are not influenced by affiliate relationships or manufacturer relationships. We maintain independence through:
- Independent evaluation first: We select equipment based on professional demand and reader interest, not affiliate commission structures.
- Honest performance scoring: Equipment is ranked by documented welding capability and durability — never by payout amounts.
- No pay-for-placement: Manufacturers cannot pay for higher rankings or featured placement in our comparisons.
- Public evaluation criteria: Our evaluation process and welding standards are fully documented.
- Affiliate disclosure: We clearly mark which links are affiliate links and explain our business model. See our full disclosure.
How We Make Money
This site is supported by affiliate commissions from welding equipment manufacturers and suppliers. When you purchase through our links, we earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This allows us to keep our reviews free and available to all professionals. However, affiliate relationships never influence which equipment we review or how we rank it.
